PROBLEMS WITH WALLS
External walls of buildings are prone to deflection or bowing,
usually caused by a lack of lateral restraint by intermediate floors, combined
with the downwards force of the roof.
The diagram below illustrates the principle of the observable
evidence of the problem.

A very effective, and universally
accepted, way of providing a solution to this problem, is to use the floor
diaphram to restrain the wall, by introducing an improved mechanical connection
between the wall and the floor.
